My thanks to the inimitable Victor Yampolsky and the orchestra at Northwestern for a GREAT performance of my Symphony No. 3! So looking forward to continuing our relationship in the coming seasons. Also fun – and unexpected! – to run into Aaron Jay Kernis!

New York, New York!

Spectacularly successful performance at Lincoln Center with the Emory Youth Symphony Orchestra – Weber: Concertino for Clarinet and Shostakovich: Symphony No.5. The Atlanta performance only got better! Wonderful students, extraordinary musicians.

“Spano Conducts Prior Symphony”

The Atlanta Symphony released their 14-15 Season and have scheduled 3 performances of my Symphony No. 3 under the baton of Robert Spano. Cannot wait! Also, Victor Yampolsky will be at the helm for another performance on May 10, 2014 with the orchestra at Northwestern. We’ll see how the political stability goes but I am also supposed to conduct it out in Egypt with the Cairo National Symphony on June 30th. Or not…

Carmina Burana-rama!

Once more into the breach for two performances of Carmina Burana with the Emory University Symphony Orchestra and Chorus! A terrific first night (minus one mis-cue which seems to be becoming a tradition every time I do this work….). Sigh.

Gorecki Symphony No. 3 with Yulia Van Doren

Cannot wait for our performance tomorrow with fabulous soprano Yulia Van Doren and the just down right profound and beautiful Gorecki 3. This performance has become a point of reflection and meditation on the events in Ukraine; we welcome the presence of the Ukraine Consul, Victor Seredyuk and his family at the vigil beforehand and at the performance.

Quartet No. 2 premiere this week! (3.1.14)

So excited to work with the fabulous Vega String Quartet this week in preparation for the premiere on Saturday! This work was keenly crafted and inspired by the members themselves and my dear friend and colleague, Will Ransom (and, I have to say, somewhat coloured by recent transformative family events that have lent a new energy and dimension to my work as a composer and conductor!).

Cello Concerto for Matt Haimovitz (2014), Viola Concerto for Stephen Upshaw (2015), Double Timpani Concerto (2015) and a Sax Concerto (2016). I shall be officially concerted out…
